Obituary

Jonesboro- Arlie Benjamin Williams, 92, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Born on January 8, 1930, Arlie grew up in Tyronza then later met and fell in love with Betty Keeney, who he married on July 18, 1951. Together they had four children and settled in Jonesboro, where they have resided for the last 60 years. In the late 1960s, Arlie bought and operated the Court Square Barbershop on Main Street. Later, he worked at General Electric from which he retired.

Arlie was passionate about life. He loved to travel around the country with his wife, Betty. But even more so, he was always up for an adventure. No matter his age or the danger, he would not hesitate to "try anything once." His adventures included everything from hot air ballooning and parasailing to white water rafting the Snake River.

Perhaps most importantly, however, was Arlie's passion for helping others. His legacy was one of service. Not only did he serve his country by fighting in the Korean War, but he volunteered for the local jail ministry, served at Southwest Church of Christ, held many ice cream socials sharing his famous homemade butterfinger ice cream, and volunteered at the American Legion. However, his greatest act of service was the gift of laughter. He entertained others for hours with his many stories and jokes that will always be cherished by his family.

He is survived by a son, Terry Williams, two daughters, Beth Quadir and Connie Wyles, and is preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Gail Williams as well as his wife, Betty Keeney Williams. Arlie is also grandfather to four grandchildren, and great-grandfather to six great grandchildren. All of whom will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held at Southwest Church of Christ on Thursday, April 28th 2022, with a viewing beginning at 12:30  pm and a service to follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers, Nathan Williams, Terry Williams, Brian Greenway, Abe Quadir, Jason Graham and Danny Wyles.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to their favorite charity.
