Jonesboro – Alfred "Freddy" Brunson Thornton Jr., 68, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at NEA Baptist Hospital.

He was born January 1, 1954 in Walnut Ridge to Alfred and Bonnie Sue Holcomb Thornton Sr.  After graduating Brookland High School in 1971, he entered the Navy where he learned his knot tying skills that he proudly bragged about.

Fred's favorite place to be was outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden, sharing his vegetables with neighbors, deer camp trips with his beagle dogs, and spending time in the bird and butterfly garden that he built for Elaine. He adored all children, especially his granddaughters.

He is survived by Elaine Thornton and their children, Matt Franklin (Tia) and Katie Thornton; grandchildren, Chaney and Hannah Franklin, all of Jonesboro; his best fur buddy Bently; siblings, Joe Thornton (Carol), Regina Hagood (Ronnie), Susie Thornton and several nieces and nephews.

Freddy was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Gary Thornton.

A celebration of his life will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery then friends are invited to join the family at the Nettleton Baptist Hospitality House located at 2750 Clinton School Road.

Visitation will be from noon until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Richey Shelby, Matt Holcomb, and nephews Garrett Broadaway, Levi Thornton, Derek Falls and J.J. Ryan and honorary pallbearer is Tad McGrew (R).
