Obituary

Pocahontas- Zilpha Cordelia Hulen Swindle passed away July 2, 2015 at the age of 98 years 11 months. Mrs. Swindle was born in Pocahontas, AR on July 16, 1917, the daughter of Prof. E.E. Hulen and Birdie Mock Hulen. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Grady Swindle, and by her brother, Bill Hulen. Mrs. Swindle is survived by two nieces, Nancy Hulen (Doyle) Reddick of Maynard and Meggi Hulen (Ron) Litherland of DeSoto, MO. She is also survived by one nephew, Tom Hulen of Warm Springs, AR. She leaves behind great nieces and nephews and many beloved relatives and friends. Mrs. Swindle was a member of the Pyburn Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Swindle was a retired teacher, following in her parents' footsteps. She began her teaching career in the small county schools in Randolph and Clay counties, where she taught in Warm Springs, Maynard, Biggers-Reyno, Corning, and Pocahontas. Most of her career was spent teaching 6th grade at Alma Spikes Elementary School in Pocahontas. She loved teaching and has related many stories about her students and their classroom activities- some funny, a few sad. She had an amazing recall of former students, their personalities, and even where they sat in the classroom. She will be missed by all who knew her. A graveside service was held Wednesday, July 8 at Masonic Cemetery.
