IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wyveta Bryant
Groves
November 17, 1929 – September 30, 2023
Brookland- Wyveta Bryant Groves, 93, of Brookland, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
She was born in Caraway, on November 17, 1929, to the late Roy and Deallie Summers Bryant. When she was 12 years old, she moved with her family to Brookland where she attended Brookland Public Schools and proudly played basketball for the Lady Bearcats. She married Alvin Luther Groves of Brookland in 1948, and they were married for 68 years before his death in 2016.
Wyveta moved to Orlando, Florida, with Alvin and their three children in the early 1960's, later returning to Brookland in 1968, a place they called home. She enjoyed a long career at Home Federal Savings and Loan of Jonesboro and retired as Senior Vice President in 1990. She and Alvin served proudly as Grand Marshals in Brookland's 2014 Christmas Parade.
As a longtime member of Brookland Baptist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes, singing in the church choir, and serving on church committees through the years. She loved to take a walk down a country road or around the block once they moved to town. She also enjoyed watching the traffic each day in and around the Brookland Schools, giving parents and neighbors a friendly wave from her front porch as they passed each day.
She grew the most beautiful plants and flowers. She enjoyed trying new recipes and was well known for her amazing chicken and dumplings, homemade rolls, and chocolate pies. She was a big baseball and basketball fan and could be found at local sporting events through the years to support her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour books about the American Western frontier and watching her favorite TV westerns. She especially loved reading her Bible and memorizing scripture, so she could indulge in deep discussions on the Bible as she sipped coffee on her front porch with family and friends. She often said she had a long list of questions for God when she made it to heaven.
Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was often heard singing a tune or quoting a nursery rhyme or poem from her childhood for her grandchildren. She faithfully prayed for each family member by name every single day.
Wyveta's love and laughter will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Bo Peep Graham; one brother, Roy Boy Bryant; and one grandchild, Mary Esther Davis.
Survivors include her children, Alan (Pam) Groves of Brookland, Terry (Billy) Davis of North Little Rock, and Chris (Sharon) Groves of Jonesboro; a sister, Elaine Nelms of Orlando, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, Alan S. Groves, David (Susan) Groves, Greg (Kacey) Groves, Rachelle (Jonathan) Wilson, Daniel (Reese) Davis, Valerie Young, Timothy Davis, William Davis, Dr. Clayton Davis, Jonathan (Alexis) Groves, Sarah (Micheal) Fletcher, Mikala (Caleb) McKenzie, and Allison Groves; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Fredia Coy Bryant of Jonesboro; and several loving nieces and nephews.
