Fisher- Windford "Winkie" Sanders, 94, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at his home. He was born May 28, 1920 to Elijah Earl and Carrie Gable Sanders. Winkie spent his entire life in the Fisher area except for his time in the Navy when he was stationed in San Francisco, CA. Winkie farmed most of his life and enjoyed being active and stayed busy doing whatever needed done around the house and farm. He grew peas and sunflowers in a field big enough to share with family and friends. He kept the area around the house mowed even into his 93rd year. Winkie was an avid hunter, beginning at a very early age and kept hunting until he was no longer able to walk in the woods. He is proceeded in death by his parents, three sisters, Eithel Edwards, Thelma Niebaum and Neva Addis and one brother, Willard Sanders. Winkie is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joyce Bryant Sanders of the home; three sons, Windford Sanders (Dora Jean) of Fisher, Dan Sanders of Cleveland, Texas and Sherman Sanders (Leslie) of Weiner; a daughter; Delores Granthan of Fisher; 11 grandchildren; Mark and Travis Granthan, Greyson, Shannon and Sean Sanders, Alisa Lott, Rosanne Gliemann, Wendy Kemp, Michelle Allbritton, Shanda Woods and Tony Newberry and 15 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2 pm at Fisher Cemetery Sunday February 8, 2015 with Paul Lawrence officiating. Arrangement have been entrusted to Gregg-Weston funeral home. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
