Obituary

Jonesboro- William Russell "Red" Hendrix, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born August 31, 1933 in Valley View to the late Tom and Laverna King Hendrix. Red graduated from Valley View High in 1951 and lived in Jonesboro and Valley View Community his lifetime. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1957 until 1963. He was a retired rice and soybean farmer.

He was always active in his community, he was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church for seventy-six Years, served seventeen years on the Valley View School Board, eleven of them as secretary, served as President for forty-two years of the Keller's Chapel Cemetery Association, served twenty-three years on the Board of Jonesboro Grain Dryer Coop and Riceland Foods and a former member of the Valley View Ruritan Club. Russell was inductee in the Valley View School Hall of Honor for his service to the school and community. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Hendrix; two sons, Dr. Keith Hendrix and Kenny Hendrix both of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Kaleb Hendrix, Kailey Hendrix and Austin Hendrix; a brother, Tommy Hendrix; two sisters, Ina Cooper and Peggy Burnett; a sister-in-law, Earline Hendrix all of Jonesboro and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Hendrix, two brothers-in-law, W. E. Cooper and Jerry Burnett and sister-in-law, Delores Hendrix.

A celebration of his life will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 17, 2017 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. N. Wayne Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Keller's Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Radius Baker, Tucker Housley, Rick Coleman, Fredie Guarr, Rick Rorex and Jerry D. Lewis and as honorary pallbearers, Brooks Cravens, Charles Givens, J.D. Salmons, Doyle "Pete" Yarbrough, Tommy Wofford, Jane LeBlanc, Ann Burns Smith, Mike Eaton, Ed Hill, Tracy Jones, Christy Baker, Jeffery Tubbs, Golden Girls and Valley View High School Class of 1951.
