Mr. Wayne Mardis of Harrisburg, departed this life Saturday, March 7, 2020 in Harrisburg, at the age of 72.
He was born April 5, 1947 in Harrisburg, the son of the late John Mardis and Obera Woods Mardis.Wayne graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1965 and went on to Arkansas State University, where he graduated in 1969 with a BS in Accounting. He began his career as an accountant with Sanyo Manufacturing in Forrest City and retired with them as the accounting manager in 2012 after 47 years. He married Nancy Woodham on August 15, 1969 and they enjoyed 50 years together. Wayne resided in Forrest City with his family for some 30 years, then moved to Harrisburg. He was an active member of the Harrisburg Church of Christ where he formerly served as an elder and was currently serving as a deacon in charge of finances. He also served as an elder in Forrest City for many years. He loved spending time on the family farm and serving his church family. He enjoyed fishing and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Asher and Mayah. He was a true servant in heart and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John and Obera Mardis, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Jane Mardis Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Mardis, of the home, three sons, Gregory (Nicole) Mardis of Mountain Home, AR, John (Pamela) Mardis of Lowell, AR, and Kevin (Ashley) Mardis, of Hot Springs, AR, one sister, Johnita (R.A.) Page of Harrisburg, two grandchildren, Asher Mardis and Mayah Mardis, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life is set for 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2020, at the Harrisburg Church of Christ with Mr. Kevin Beard and Mr. Daniel Page officiating. Interment will follow in Farm Hill Cemetery near Harrisburg, where Wayne was the caretaker.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Jason McGee, Rockey Rapert, Brian Lane, Caleb Henry, Sy Williams and Brian Sefers. Men of the Harrisburg Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
