Obituary

Walter Edward (Duke) Reid, 66, of Pocahontas passed away Thursday, December, 18, 2008 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born December 7, 1942 in Little Rock, AR. Duke loved all sports. As a youth, he was an avid baseball player and upon graduation from Central High School in Little Rock, he was invited to try out for the Philadelphia Phillies professional baseball team. He chose instead to accept a baseball scholarship to Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR. As an adult he enjoyed spending his free time on the golf course and hunting with his son, Jason. Under his guidance of his father-in-law, A.C. DeClerk, and his brothers-in-law, Bill and David DeClerk, he trained and worked in the retail propane business in Pocahontas for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Era Reid and brother Tom Reid, all of Little Rock. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kay DeClerk Reid; a son Jason Reid and his wife Shannon of Little Rock. 2 grandchildren Savannah and Jackson and a sister Sarah Cutsinger of Waco, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday in Pocahontas at St. Paul's Catholic Church with burial following to St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday evening in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas followed by a rosary service led by Father John Marconi. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Pocahontas or Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
