Obituary

Pocahontas- On August 7, 2014, Walter Lee Doan of Pocahontas, Arkansas passed away at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge. Walter was born on December 16, 1919 in Bertrand, MO to the late Aaron Charles and Fleedie Pearl Doan. On October 5, 1938, he married Neta Belle Thompson who became his wife of almost 69 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Fleedie Doan, his wife Neta Belle Doan, a sister Alline Doan, brothers James Aaron, Loyce E and William "Shirley" Doan, and a great grandson Austin Jarrett. Walter was the proud father of one son and seven daughters: Thomas (June) Doan of London, AR., Barbara Lee, Peggy Milhone, Kim (Jim) Thorpe all of Pocahontas, Beverly (Orville) Scott and Lyndia (Bill) Adams of Cherokee Village, Sherry (Frank) Klarer of McKinney, TX. and Patricia (Mike) Decker of Ravenden. He also left behind 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and one brother Charles Clayton Doan of Quincy, IL. Walter was a farmer for many years before becoming a Packing Room foreman at Brown Shoe Company for 25 years. After retiring from Brown Shoe Company his new passion became gardening. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Walter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He had a special way of putting a big smile on the face of anyone in his presence. His "Special" stories will neverr be forgotten by his family and friends. The family wants to extend a heart-felt thank you to the special people at Lawrence Hall who cared for and showed such love and compassion towards our loved one. He loved all of you especially his two "Angels" Courtney and Jessica. God bless you. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Alzheimer Society to help find a cure for all types of dementia. All services will be held in McNabb Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, August 10, 2014, visitation will be 1:00-3:00 p.m. funeral service immediately following at 3:00 p.m. with Jim Thorpe officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens.
