Obituary

Brookland- Vivian Savannah Thacker, 96, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014. She was both October 19, 1917 to Matthew and Mae Griffin. She was raised at Farrville and attended Clinton School. She was married to J. E. "Ellzy" Thacker in 1940. She assisted him in farming in Brookland. She retired at General Electric in Jonesboro with twenty-two years of service. She was a member of the NEA Baptist Auxiliary for eighteen years. Vivian was a fifty-two year breast survivor. She became a Christian and was baptized as a young girl at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Brookland United Methodist with her husband. She was faithful in her church, a member of the UMW and served on several committees. She will be remembered for her unconditional love for others, her giving spirit and for keeping a positive attitude. Throughout her life she was loved by many and she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Her family credits her as a mentor, a good example and always encouraging them to "never give up." She was a great cook and many folks requested her coconut pies. She is survived by her daughters, Helen Jane (John) Bishop and Margie (Jerry) Crocker of Brookland; her granddaughter, Cari (Coy) Boyd of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren, Eden Elliott of Little Rock and Trey, Lucas and Cade Boyd of Jonesboro; a niece, Dorothy Scarbrough of West Memphis and nephews, Harold Thacker, Perry Thacker and Johnny Griffin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellzy Thacker; her parents, Matthew and Mae Griffin; her granddaughters, Kati Mae Bishop and Ashley Crocker Elliott; a sister, Lora Boling; two brothers, Jesse and William Griffin. Serving as pallbearers: Keith Blackman, Jerry Whitten, Andy Griffin, Merle Rupard, Charles Weathers and Bert Cole. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Pitman and Jerry Donohue. Visitation is Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm with Dr. Stan Ballard officiating. Private burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery. Special thanks to Plantation Home in Trumann for their loving care and to all her caregivers.
