Obituary

Mrs. Virginia J. Oswald of Jonesboro, departed this life Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the NEA Baptist Hospital at the age of 84. She was born May 27, 1931 in Steprock, AR, the daughter of the late John and Ruby Brown Gibson. Mrs. Oswald was a homemaker and a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Virginia was affectionately known as "Aunt Gin" to countless children over the years and always looked forward to visiting with them after they were grown and had children of their own. She also enjoyed watching her sons in the wrestling ring and was always upset when they wrestled against each other. When that happened, she would just cheer for both of them and then scold them for punching each other when the match was over. She loved spending time with her family and her "special bird, BeeBop." She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Daniel Oswald, her parents, John and Ruby Brown Gibson, two brothers, L.C. and Johnny Gibson, two sisters, Donna Meadows and Maxine Weldon, twin daughters, Mandy and Brandy Oswald, two babies Treat, great grandchildren Alex and Andy Jones and Garry Oswald. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann (Bill) Treat, three sons, Dan (Pat) Oswald, Don (Karen) Oswald, David (Malinda) Oswald, grandchildren, Daniel Treat, Matina (Brandon) Jones, Angie (Nathan) Midgett, Krystal (Chris) Scott, Christopher Oswald, Joyce Oswald, Shawn Oswald, Stephanie Perez, Shawn P. Newman, great grandchildren, Braydon, Tiffany, Mallory, Sammi Jo, Hunter, Victoria, Brittany, Daniel, Kelsey, Moises, Courtney, Shawna, Whitney, Shea, Blake, Allison, Mike, and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lilly (Leamon) Smallmon of Pocahontas, two brothers, Larry (Brenda) Gibson of Cumberland, Maryland and Mike (Cindy) Gibson of Boise, Idaho and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Fr. Alphonse Gollapalli officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, 6:00-7:00 p.m. A Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Daniel Treat, Nathan Midgett, Shawn Oswald, Chris Scott, Hunter Oswald, and Christopher Oswald. Honorary pallbearers will be K.C. Brown, Burnis Shelton, April Villegas, Southern Hearts Girls, Brandon Jones, Jim Whitley and Art Whitley.
