Obituary

Jonesboro - Mrs. Virginia Stone, 95, was received into the arms of her Lord on February 6, 2020, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Mr. H.B. Stone, Jr. and the daughter of the late Jack Jimerson and Mae Jimerson David.

Virginia Stone was a member of First Baptist Church for over sixty years. She was a member of The Phebean Ladies Sunday School class in previous years when she was able to attend. Virginia Jimerson made her profession of faith by baptism in October 1940 at the Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, with her soon-to-be husband, H.B. Stone, Jr. They both were baptized, attending the first meeting of the church with charter members, including her father-in-law, Mr. H.B. Stone, Sr., minister. All 15 new members and the eight charter members were the first active members of Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, attending services in the Prospect School.

Virginia Jimerson and H.B. Stone, Jr. were married December of 1942. They were owners of several drug stores in Jonesboro and the surrounding area. She was very active in the family business, working in the office, bookkeeping, waiting on customers, and purchasing merchandise for the stores. In earlier years, she worked for Penny's Department Store in downtown Jonesboro. She attended schools in the Rogers and Prospect communities, where she played on the Rogers girls' basketball team. She was a 1942 graduate of Arkansas State High School.

Virginia enjoyed spending time with family and her two grandchildren, who refer to her affectionately as Nana. She also enjoyed shopping, antiquing, and reading. In earlier years, she enjoyed garden club and flower arranging. When her children were growing up, Virginia was a wonderful seamstress, and she enjoyed making their clothes. She was a member of the first Beautification Club of the Jonesboro Country Club with close friends who have gone before her.

Mrs. Virginia Stone is survived by two daughters of Jonesboro, Sherry Stone and Angela Stone Schmidt and husband, Fred Schmidt; two grandchildren, Amy Schmidt Hawkins (Curt) of Jonesboro and Bryan Stone Schmidt of Walnut Ridge; a sister, Mrs. Ann Brooks and several nieces and nephews.

A family graveside service for Virginia Stone was held at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery, with Bro. Emil Williams presiding under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

Her daughters want to thank Mrs. Pat McQuay for the love and care she provided in recent years to her and the family.
