Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Nichols Gambill of Jonesboro, departed this life Saturday, October 21, 2017, at her home, at the age of 86.

She was born January 16, 1931 in Brookland, the daughter of the late Curtis Nichols and Clara Belle Tomlinson Nichols.

Virginia married James Franklin Gambill on March 18, 1950 and they enjoyed 63 years together before his death on September 20, 2013. She was a homemaker while raising her six children and also worked part time at the Walnut Street Baptist Church. After her last child started school, she began a career at the Crauighead County Farm Bureau and retired from there as office manager after 26 years of service. She enjoyed all types of needle work, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She enjoyed her flower gardens and working puzzles. But her love of life was spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Hamilton and Elizabeth Blankenship, and a granddaughter, Christie Gambill.

She is survived by two daughters, Rita Gambill and Donna Slagley (Billy), both of Jonesboro; four sons, Rex Gambill (Phyllis) of Jonesboro, Don Gambill (Kathy) of Neosho, MO, David Gambill (Sandra) of Jonesboro, and Paul Gambill (Lisa) of Bono, and 19 grandchildren, Ryan Gambill, Audra Mashburn, Amy Shields, Brad Hanson, Brandon Hanson, Angela Shairrick, Elizabeth McKelvey, Jamie Farmer, Austin Slagley, Drake Slagley, Dr. Jason Gambill, Justin Gambill, Taylor Gambill, Kimberly Smith, Emily Mason, Jon Weindel, Marc Weindel, Jessica Weindel, and Joseph Weindel and 31 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. Bruce Venable officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh cemetery under the direction of Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday evening, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons, Ryan Gambill, Brad Hanson, Brandon Hanson, Jason Gambill, Justin Gambill and Taylor Gambill and as honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons, Logan Akers, Tyler Betts and Silas Pizzutiello.
