O'Kean- Virginia Lee (Elms) Garrett, 79, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Virginia was born March 25, 1939 in Bakersfield, California to Willie Lee and Cora Maurice Raper Elms. She attended Bakersfield High School and graduated from Mojave High in 1957. She worked as a bookkeeper and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. Virginia lived most of her life off and on in Bakersfield, California, where she still has family and friends. Since moving to Arkansas her life has been greatly enriched by all the family and friends she had there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill \u0026 Maurice Elms; and one sister, Wanda Jean (Elms) Starr.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Garrett; five daughters, Marcella (Michael) Cartney of Bakersfield, CA, Sherry (Perry) Eggleston of Arlington, TX, Dacra (Frank) Melendrez of Costa Mesa, CA, Lisa (Scott) Pester of Woodland, CA, Teresa DeArman of Lake Isabella, CA; one son, Veril Garrett of Bakersfield, CA; 37 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a bonus daughter she inherited from her sister, Becky Starr Harris; and many nieces and nephews.

Both services will be held at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 pm. The funeral will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Brother Jeral officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Michael Cartney, Frank Melendrez, Allen Summers, Charles Taylor, Hunter Rickey, Douglas Garrett Sr., and Jessie Rickey.
