Monette- Virgie M. Owens, 92, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at St. Francis South in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Virgie was born December 2, 1920 in Monette, the daughter of late Jet Raymond and Gertrude West Shaver. The former Miss Virgie Shaver attended school in Monette. She married Ransom Owens on September 24, 1938 in Monette. Virgie was a seamstress and a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening vegetables and cooking. Virgie loved serving people. She was always doing for others before herself. She volunteered her time quilting for Children's Homes, Inc. She was a member of the Monette Church of Christ in Monette.After living 84 years in Monette, Arkansas, due to declining health, and could no longer live alone, she moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to be with her daughter. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley and husband Harriel Scarsdale of Broken Arrow, OK; her grandchildren, Kevin Maresha, Renee, Shawn Trish, Jesse; great-grandchildren, Cody, Casey, Chad, Sarah, Nathan, Kirsten, J.J., Sebastian; great-great-grandchildren, Blake, Landon, Attisus; brothers, Alvin and wife Deloris Shaver of Rockford, IL and Joe Shaver of Haleyville, AL; sisters, Ruth Bendily of Kosciusko, MS and Dovie and husband Thomas Stubblefield of Adamsville, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ransom Owens; brothers, Odie and Ray; sisters, Veda and Vernie. A celebration of her life will be 10:00 am, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Monette Church of Christ with Pastor Larry Woodward officiating. Burial will follow Monette Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday, September 20, 2013 at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
