Obituary

Pocahontas- Violet Marie Flanigan, 95, daughter of the late Joe and Hester Rush Spikes died Saturday, April 28 at Randolph Home. She was preceded by her parents, former husband Joseph S. Flanigan, late husbands Willis H. Scears, and Dewrell(Dick) Flanigan: daughter Alta Mae (Flanigan) Nail, grandson Michael Geick, and son-in-law Keith Goree. Survivors include daughters Marjorie Flanigan(Larry) Geick of Lacon,IL; Anna Lea (Scears) Goree of St. Petersburg,FL; Glenda Flanigan (Art) Witbeck of Oceanside, CA; sons James (Carolyn) Flanigan of Bonne Terre,Mo; and Gene (Phyllis) Flanigan of Wills Point, TX. Grandchildren include Jimmy (Diann) Flanigan of St. Charles, MO; Verna Geimer of St.Louis,MO; Fred (Judy) Geick of Peoria, IL; Karen Geick(Dave) Spurlock of Metamora ,IL; Cynthia (Alan) Mefferd of Lima,OH; Brenda (Art) Catalano of Rochester, NY; Debra Rogala of Rochester, NY; Wayne(Belinda) Flanigan of Harvill, MO; Michael Goree of St. Petersburg, FL; Leann (Brian) Walsh of Boston, MA; and David Witbeck of Oceanside,CA. Great-grandchildren include Gary and Nick Geimer of St.Louis,MO; Taylor,Brendon, and Parker Flanigan of St.Charles, MO: Michael Spurlock of Metamora ,IL; Kristine, Brad and Daylon Downey of Chillicothe,IL; Melanie Rogala of Rochester,NY; Kevin (Vanessa) Rogala of Rochester, NY; Christy (Ned) Northrup of Rochester, NY; Brian (Courtney )Catalano of Rochester, NY: and Kevin, Natalie and Lilly Flanigan of Harvill, MO. Great-great grandchildren include Emily and Benjamin Northrup of Rochester, NY; Brendon and Alayna Catalano and McKenna Preston of Firport, NY. Mrs Flanigan was employed as a seamstress by Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis for more than 20 years before retiring. Violet Lanigan was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. During this time she was associated with Palestine Church of Christ at Ingram, AR, the Church of Christ in South Pocahontas and Pyburn Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Flanigan was a very active member of the local VFW Post Ladies Auxillary until illness forced curtailment of her outside activities. One thing she looked forward to was writing the "Hayestown" local news which was published in the Pocahontas Star Herad. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Association in lieu of flowers. A special thank you to the staff of Randolph Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. in chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Dennis McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in Spikes Cemetery.
