Obituary

Vera P. (Nana) Thompson, 85, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009, at St. Benards Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born September 7, 1924, the daughter of the Dave and Eliza Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Cleo Phillips. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gene Thompson of the home. Two sons; Larry (Ruth) Thompson of Jonesboro, Jimmy (Debbie) Thompson of Pocahontas. Three daughters; Bea (Sonny) Mathews, Pat (Willis) Crisp and Barb Wallis all of Pocahontas and honorary daughter, Martha (Bill) McNutt of Walnut Ridge. Nine grandchildren; Sonja Thielemier, Jennifer Chamberlain, Paige Stanton, Shannon Ogden, Sara Massey, Renda Smith, Bridget Wallis, Regina Carpenter and T.J. Thompson, one honorary grandchild, Drew McNutt. Seventeen great-grandchildren; Mat and Trevor Anderson, Alyson, Jeff and Darrin Thielemier, Emma and Parker Chamberlain, Brady and Laci Stanton, Kelsie, Kenan and Kenzie Ogden, Kennedy Massey, Kaylee Smith, Kayden Wallis-Collier, Austin and Breonna Carpenter and five great great grandchildren; Ace Anderson, Karley, Lillie, Cole and Aleah Thielemier. She is also survived by two brothers; Jim Phillips of Tullahoma, TN and Carl (Edna) Phillips of Potosi, MO, three sisters; Vada Schafer and Mildred (Harold) Davis of Pocahontas, and Billie Baker of O'Fallen, MO and two sister-in-laws; Aldean Dildine and Marge Ballard of Pocahontas. Special care-givers; Linda Hooten, Wanda Thielemier, Shirley Johnson and Vada Schafer and special neighbor Roger Barnes. She also leaves a countless number of people who call her Nana. She was a member of Elnora Freewill Baptist Church and was a Primary Class Sunday School teacher for 60 years where she influenced a multitude of young lives. Services will be held Sunday, October 11th, in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Jeral Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-8. Pallbearers include: T.J. Thompson, Scott Thielemier, Chris Chamberlain, Kevin Stanton, Michael Ogden, Wade Massey, Kurt Smith, Mat Anderson, Trevor Anderson, Jeff Thielemier, Darrin Thielemier and Drew McNutt. Memorials may be made to Elnora Freewill Baptist Church.
