Obituary

Jonesboro- Velma L. Ruegger, 96, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at NEA Baptist Hospital.

She was born February 14, 1922 in Weiner to the late Hal and Flossie Holland Worden. Velma was from Waldenburg. A graduate of Arkansas State College, She was a school teacher for Weiner School System. She taught for twenty-one years, teaching 5th and 6th grade and special education. She most enjoyed seeing kids growing and accomplish things they didn't think they could. She also spent twenty-nine years making braille Bibles.

Velma had five brothers and one sister. She was number three in that group, raised with boys, she played basketball and was a "tom boy." She and her late-husband, Lester a famer, had two children, Lester Jr. (deceased) and Vickie. She loves watching and feeding birds and playing bingo.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Vickie and Randy Burge of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a brother and his wife, Bill and Wanda Worden of Mississippi; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A celebration of her life will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Waldenburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Krogen officiating. Interment will follow at Waldenburg Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Weiner Fire Department.
