Mrs. Velma Annette Long Scroggins, of Harrisburg, departed this life Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro, at the age of 78.
She was born November 21, 1941 in McCormick, AR, the daughter of the late Elmer Long and Addie Bell Ball Long.
Velma graduated with the last graduating class at McCormick High School in 1960. She married Jimmy Scroggins in January of 1961 and they enjoyed 52 years before his death in 2013. She was employed mainly in the banking and insurance fields, but had also worked at American Greetings and Johansen\u0027s Shoe Factory. She loved sewing and working in her yard and loved to travel when possible. She was a member of the County Line Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, three brothers, Eddie, Bryon and Gordon, and one nephew, Johnathan Long. She is survived by two daughters, Carrie Smith of Jonesboro and June (Perry) Long of Harrisburg, one son, Christopher Scroggins of Harrisburg, one sister, Deb (Shane) Peeler of Harrisburg, six brothers, Phillip (Debbie) Long of Jonesboro, William (Shirley) Long of Trumann, Wesley Long of Trumann, James (Donna) Long of Dexter, MO, Kirk Long of Harrisburg, and Marlin (Etta) Long of Harrisburg, three grandchildren, Matt (Emily) Smith of Jonesboro, Brett Long of Jonesboro, and Adam Smith of Jonesboro, and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Smith and Ethan Smith.
Friends may visit with the family Friday evening, March 13, 2020, at Gregg-Weston Funeral Home in Harrisburg, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Burial will be private in the Arkansas State Veteran\u0027s Cemetery at Birdeye.
