Obituary

Veda Marie Watson, 102, of Jonesboro, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015. She was born July 1, 1912 in Rector to the late Marshall and Belle Abney Hampton. She was a housewife and a member of Rose Chapel Baptist Church in Caraway. During World War II she was a "Rosie the Riveter" for Ford Motor Company. She also worked at the Kennett Shirt Factory and a meat packing Plant in St. Louis, MO where she met her 1st husband, of 28 years, Omer L. Jones. Later she reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Wayne Watson, and they were married for 22 years She will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Kay Lowe of Jonesboro, sons; Alan O. Jones and wife Linda of Little Rock, and Charles W. Jones and wife Barbara of Canton, MI, daughter-in-law, Lorene Jones Henderson and husband Chuck of Little Rock, a brother Casper Rupert of Glennie, MI, and sister-in-law, Sally Hampton of Bartlett, TN, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Omer L. Jones, her second husband, Wayne Watson, her parents, son, Danny M. Jones and a grandson, Kevin Lowe as well as two brothers and two sisters. A celebration of her life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 in the chapel of Gregg Langford Bookout Chapel with Rev. John Travis officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Rector. Visitation will be Wednesday the 18th from 6 until 8 p.m.
