Obituary

Thursie Cook departed this life on December 20, 2020, throughout her life, she touched many lives and will be missed. She had tons of stories that everyone who sat with her would love to hear.
Thursie was born to John Thomas and Willie Mazie Hulvey on October 30, 1923. Both preceded her in death.
Thursie was married to James Washington Cook, Jr. on June 6, 1949, until his death on Nov. 2, 2003. They worked hard and saved enough money over the years to buy a small farm and would add to the acreage over time. When the farm was sold it had over 400 acres.
She is survived by her brother John Willard Hulvey of Rossville, TN.
Survived also by her niece Rita Thursie Jackson and her husband Jim of Collierville, TN; their children Sharon Valentin and her husband Elliot and Laura George and Laura's daughter Adrianna.
She is also survived by her niece Karen Woodlee and her husband Don of Collierville, TN; their children John Woodlee and Jennifer Shoop and her husband David and their child Vivian.
She also had several nieces and nephews from James' side of the family.
Thursie taught school in the Randolph County for 39 years. She remembered all of her students that she taught and would refer to them as her kids. She kept a little book that had all of her students listed each time she taught them with their birthday listed by their name. She taught several generations of families. At one time someone counted the children and that she had taught and there were over 1,900 students. She even taught her brother. She taught 1st thru 8th grade. She was loved by all. Even her doctor had referred to her as the Mother of Randolph County.
Visitation will be January 2 at 10:30 to noon and the funeral at 12:00 at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, AR. She will be laid to rest at Randolph Memorial Gardens (No gravesite service).
To follow the directives of Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, masks covering the mouth and nose are required for all persons in Arkansas for all indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to non-household members where social distancing cannot be assured. Those attending will also be asked to sign a contact registry and maintain a social distance.
