Schugtown - Thomas Rice, 97, passed away March 28, 2010. Born October 20, 1912 in Delaplaine to the late Thomas and Emma Rice. He is preceded in death by wife of 66 years, Ruby Gates Rice. He is survived by twin brother, Lewis Rice of Peach Orchard, AR. And brother Buster Rice of Phoenix, AR. Two sister-in-laws, Louise Rice - Smith of Walnut Ridge and El Wanda Gates of Delaplaine. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and great great great nieces and nephews. Lifelong army buddy, Robert Bennett of Jonesboro. Mr. Rice served in Patton's Third Army and landed on Omaha Beach. His battalion liberated Dachau (concentration camp). Services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial will follow to Green County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8. Pallbearers include: Sonny Hampton, Butch Daniels and Gerry Tarry all of Schugtown. Tommy Garrett of O'Kean, John Edward Wilkinson and Ed Smith both of Delaplaine.
