Mr. Thomas Jerry Jacobs of Harrisburg departed this life Friday morning at the St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, at the age of 86. He gained his heavenly home after a lengthy battle with health issues to join his parents, his sister Daisy Pelts and his son David.
He was born May 19, 1931 in Harrisburg, the son of the late Thomas Oliver (Ollie) Jacobs and Maude Ethel Wright Jacobs.
Jerry married his wife Clara Elizabeth Hardy Jacobs on January 10, 1951 and she was his faithful and loving wife for 66 years. Jerry was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and church treasurer. Jerry was also involved in the building of the new sanctuary and family life building at Greenfield Baptist Church when the old facility was severely damaged by flood waters. Jerry invested his life in various activities in support of his family. Some of those were a farm laborer, construction worker and foreman, metal building and grain systems builder and cattleman.
Jerry was the father to four children, Rev. Tommy Jacobs and his wife Delores of Harrisburg, Ann Tarlton and her husband L.D. of Marked Tree, AR, David Jacobs, who preceded him in death and Steven Jacobs of Palmetto, FL. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev. Michael Criner officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery near Harrisburg. Friends may visit at the funeral home just prior to services, 1:00-2:00 p.m.
