Obituary

Pocahontas-Susan Darlene Johnson, known to all who loved her simply as Darlene, passed away peacefully in her home on March 24, 2026. She was born on September 13, 1964, to Darrell and Sue Johnson.

Darlene built a career in real estate and property management, but it was the garden that truly held her heart. She found deep joy in tending to growing things, nurturing life from the soil, and spending her days outdoors in the quiet company of nature.

Four years ago, Darlene welcomed Mister Bentley Johnson into her life — a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel newborn in very poor health. With patient, devoted care, she nursed him back to health, and the bond they formed became one of the great loves of her life. She would often say that they saved each other.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Johnson; her beloved son, Richie Johnson, both of Braidwood, Illinois; her paternal grandparents, Lee and Hattie Johnson of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and her maternal grandparents, Earl and Blondie McQuay of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Darlene is survived by her parents, Jack and Sue Jacob of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; her sister, Melody Johnson of Jonesboro, Arkansas; her grandson, Landon Johnson of Braidwood, Illinois; her favorite nephew, Ryan Johnson of Alpharetta, Georgia; and many beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday March 28, 2026 at 10:30 am in the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with Ryan Johnson officiating. Visitation will precede the service starting at 9:30 am in the chapel. She will be laid to rest in Trinity Cemetery near Bono.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
