Mr. Sidney L. "Happy" Parker of Harrisburg, departed this life Wednesday morning, January 22, 2020, at the St. Bernard\u0027s Medical Center in Jonesboro, at the age of 90.
He was born June 28, 1929, in Harrisburg, the son of the late Sid A. Parker and Essie Faulkner Parker.
Happy was a lifelong resident of Harrisburg and a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church at Whitehall, where he served as deacon for over 60 years. He was a 1949 graduate of Harrisburg High School where he excelled in football and was captain of his team. He married Clara Jean Myers in December of 1949. They recently celebrated 70 years together. He was a Master Electrician and Plumber and a skilled builder. He served on the Harrisburg School Board from 1967-1978. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and woodworking. He loved repairing things for others and his passion was helping widows and those with sickness. He had a true servant\u0027s heart. But his greatest joy was spending time with his family and every occasion was special as long as they were together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Carlos Parker, Woodrow Parker, Titus Parker and Cecil Parker and three sisters, Ramona McLin, Juanita Winters, and Barbara Foust.
He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Jean Parker of the home, two daughters, Sharon Messer and her husband Tommy of Newport, and Cathy Spiegel and her husband Don of Harrisburg, two grandchildren, Derek Spiegel and his wife Angelina of Jonesboro and Robin Ward of Tampa, FL, and also two great grandchildren, Colin Ward of Tampa, FL and Rosie Grace Spiegel of Jonebsoro.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev. John Medlock and Mr. Derek Spiegel officiating. Interment will follow in Waldenburg Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include John Keith Hutchison, Harold Kocher, Brian Maddox, Jimmy Parker, Luke Maddox, Rick Huffman, Malcom Winters and Bob Brashears. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Branum, Pete Traynom, Richard Sanders, Buddy Gaskin, Bob Chandler, Joe Jimerson, Scott Parker, Dan Maddox, Billy Maddox and Tommy Adams.
