Shirley Ann Burrow James, 90, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026 in St. Louis MO.

Shirley was born October 13, 1935, in Bay, to the late John Dennis “J.D” and Neva Kathryn “Kay” Burrow. Shirley was a woman of deep faith whose life was a testimony to her love for Jesus Christ. She sought to live each day with humility and devotion, finding the utmost joy in serving those she loved.

Shirley’s marriage, family, and faith were the central blessings of her life. She devoted herself faithfully to all she loved. Her love was expressed not only in words, but in the countless acts of kindness, sacrifice, and service she gave so freely.

Shirley’s faith was not simply something she professed; it was the foundation of how she lived. She was actively involved in the ministry of the Church of Christ, where she found immense joy in teaching Bible classes and sharing her love and knowledge of God’s Word with others. She also cherished her time in the ladies’ group, where she deeply valued the fellowship, encouragement, prayer, and opportunities to serve with fellow Christian women. Shirley had a love for singing and her voice was a beautiful expression of her faith. She truly treasured every chance to worship with her church family, especially through song.

Shirley is survived by her children Katonna (Dina Lewis) Richardson of St. Louis MO and Kevin (Cyndi) James of Troy MO; grandchildren, Bobbi (Jonathan) Gilbert, Brian (Jennifer) Richardson, Kerry (Jerod) Gill, Courtney (Patrick) Case, and Kyle James; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Gary Ronald James, her son and daughter-in-law Keith and Donna James, and her brother Dennis (Avis) Burrow.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness: faithfulness to God, to her husband, to her family, and to her church. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her humble spirit, her devotion to her husband, her love for God’s Word, and the inspiration she offered for others.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel at 2 with Spencer Furby officiating. Visitation will precede the service starting at 1.

Interment will be at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.
