Ruby Joy Carlew, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on August 18, 2026, at the age of 95. She was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. Everyone who knew Joy will deeply miss her presence. Born on April 2, 1931, in Bay Village, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Merle Greenwood Casebier and Cecil Owen Casebier.
Joy graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1949 and furthered her education by attending Draughon's Business College, graduating in 1950. On May 2, 1953, she married Lowell Elton Carlew, a veteran of the United States Army. Joy had a successful and fulfilling career of 33 years as a dedicated employee with the General Motors Insurance Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri.
Upon retirement, Joy and Lowell relocated to Pocahontas, where they found their church home at First United Methodist Church. Together, they shared a love for golfing, fishing, and traveling, while Joy pursued her passions for flower gardening and collecting antiques.
Joy is survived by her sisters, Jerry Parks of Statesville, NC, Nettie Blaxton of Pocahontas, AR, and Marilyn Harmon of Desha, AR, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 65 years, and her beloved Pomeranians, Prissy, Heidi, and Misty.
A celebration of Joy’s life will be held at McNabb Funeral Home at 2129 North Park Street, Pocahontas, Arkansas, on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Visitation for family is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. and for the public at 10:30 a.m., with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In honor of Joy's memory, the family kindly suggests donations be made to the Randolph County Nursing Home.
