Pocahontas- Ronald Weir Riggs, 88, passed away December 25, 2017.
Ronald was born November 23, 1929 in Pocahontas, AR to the late Rosa McDowell and Grace Million Riggs.
He was fiercely loyal to his Lord Jesus, his country, and his family. He was a Christian man who served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and he supported his family and many others in need throughout his life.
He earned BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
He worked in construction engineering his whole career and finished with the Foreign Buildings Office of the U.S. Dept. of State and its contractors, during which time he built and renovated U.S. embassies around the world. He retired in 2010.
He loved baseball from playing in community games around Attica as a young man to cheering for the Cardinals through the 2017 season.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Johnson Riggs of the home; children Elinor (Dan) Weaver of Lavaca, AR, Sam (Lisa) Riggs of West Plains, MO, and Mack (Alyson) Riggs of Memphis, TN; siblings William Riggs of Sparta, TN, Robert Riggs of Fayetteville, AR, Emma Rapert of Maynard, AR, and Mary Decker of Attica, AR and nine grandchildren.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Riggs Sago.
His family is eternally grateful to his care team in Pocahontas, especially the Randolph County Nursing Home staff for their compassion and excellence.
A graveside memorial service for the family will be held at Sutton Cemetery with grandson Austin Riggs officiating.
