Obituary

Mr. Robert Lawrence Wright, Jr. of Harrisburg, Arkansas, departed this life Monday, December 27, 2021, at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 67.

He was born September 29, 1954 in Cicero, IL, the son of the late Robert Lawrence Wright and Olzie Louise Garrett Wright.

Robert left High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1972. While in the army, he acquired his GED and was an MP and dog handler.  He served in the Army for 3 years.  Following his service, he became a police officer and began a career than spanned 43 years.  He began his police career in Trumann and also worked in Batesville, Tyronza, Erie, KS and retired from the Harrisburg Police Department in December of 2016. He also served as a substitute teacher at Harrisburg High School. He was a bouncer at the Eagles Club in Jonesboro and owned and operated his own Motorcycle Escort Service. He was an active member of the Cross Chapel Baptist Church in Harrisburg.  He loved working with stained glass, listening to music and reading his Bible.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Dale.  He is survived by four daughters, Mary Watts, Rhonda Carpenter, and Dusty Wright, all of Trumann, and Tabitha Greenway of Harrisburg, a special friend and companion, Debbie Costner of Harrisburg, one sister, Sonia Nan Barnes (Johnny) of Trumann, ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

A Graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.  Services are entrusted to Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg.  Pallbearers will include Dylan Bushong, James Vanlandingham, Cameron Wright, James Stone, J.C. Barnes and Jason Watts.  Honorary pallbearers will include Tyler Carpenter, as well as police officers of Harrisburg, Tyronza, Trumann and Batesville.  There will be no visitation prior to services.
