Jonesboro- Robert Allen Prater, 78, passed away May 19, 2016. Robert was born December 18, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to Ed and Emma Tucker Prater. He served in the US Navy on the USS Borie in the Mediterranean for most of his tour. He then worked for Kings Department Store and was later hired as buyer at Magee Company. He always felt his tenure at Magee's was a good foundation for his future. He was hired in 1972 at Waterloo and served as the Purchasing and Materials Manager until he later retired in 1995. He loved to travel, was always ready to help others, and enjoyed life. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Brooks Prater; daughter, Sheila Selsor of Missouri; son Tim Prater of Chicago, IL; siblings: Marie (Bill) Teel, Pat Lorsbach, Rick (Linda) Prater all of Pocahontas, Georgia (James) Ratliff of Imboden; Janice Prater (wife of late Jim Prater); and Mary Therese (ex-wife of late Jim Prater); 20 nieces and nephews; and 27 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elsie Kennett; and brother, Jim Prater. All services will be at McNabb Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 2:00-4:00pm. A funeral service will be Monday, May 23, 2016 at 10:00am with David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Maynard Cemetery. Pallbearers: Terry Redwine, Tracy Redwine, Jake Redwine, Richard Teel, Mike Creason and Trey Hicks.
