Mr. Robert Lee Johnson, Sr. of Harrisburg, departed this life Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the St. Bernard\u0027s Hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 88.
He was born September 29, 1930 in Judd Hill, AR, the son of the late Robert Littleton Johnson and Bessie Shepard Johnson.
Robert was a factory worker and mechanic most of his life. He served 4 years in the U.S. Army and served 18 months in Japan. He married Sonya Hillis in 1953 and they enjoyed 66 years together. He enjoyed fishing and collecting model cars and remote control cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Jacob, Elsie Baker and Lorene Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Sonya Johnson of the home, two sons, Robert Lee Johnson, Jr. of Harrisburg and Rickie Johnson (Nancy) of Elk Grove, IL, one daughter, Debbie Geils of Palatine, IL, one brother, J.W. Johnson (Dorothy) of Four Mile, KY, three sisters, Betty Dodd of Jonesboro, Dorothy Goeforth (Curtis) of Chicago, IL and Elise Wagner (Donnie) of Jonebsoro, four grandchildren, Samantha Mays, Caitlin Swift, Kristen Johnson, and Matthew Geils, and two great grandchildren, Hailey Mays and Lincoln Mays.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg, with Rev. Kenny McMahan officiating. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday evening, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Robert Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Doyle Hillis, Jim Cantrell, Max Eastin and Danny White. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Hillis, Garrett Hillis and Joe Hillis.
