Jonesboro- Robert (Bob) Charles Young, 94, passed way from this life on Saturday November 15,2025, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born in Belgrade, Missouri to Anthony and Lottie Young on December 23, 1930. Bob began working on the farm along with his family as sharecroppers when his family moved to Bay Village, Arkansas. He met the love of his life Alva Mae Culbreath there and they married on December 22, 1951. They enjoyed over 72 years of marriage.
Bob and Alva moved to St. Louis, MO in 1958 striving for a better life. He found work as a maintenance mechanic at Baldor Electric Company where he spent about 16 years. He could fix anything and became the maintenance foreman for many years before deciding to move back to Bay Village, where they bought land and built a house where they could enjoy country living again. He continued working as a mechanic and retired from American Greetings in Harrisburg. Bob was able to enjoy his retirement for over 32 years where he hunted wild game, and fished in every river, lake, pond and borrow pit around the area. He was especially an avid crappie fisherman and was also a very good fish fryer. He served many years on the Bay Village Fire Department Board and he volunteered at the Harrisburg Senior Life Center and participated as a member in beanbag baseball and Wii bowling tournaments. He was quite good at both. He also enjoyed working in his shop on woodworking projects and making special tools. He was a very good gardener and enjoyed spending time tending to his vegetables.
Bob was always a man of integrity and was a follower of Christian principles in every aspect of his life. He served as a deacon in Assembly of God Churches in St. Louis, House Springs, MO and Bay Village, AR. He was always available to lend a hand with anything the church needed with maintenance and repairs and he served as an usher and greeter. He also drove the church bus when in Missouri to pick up those that didn't have a ride to church. He never met a stranger, and it was important to him that he treated everyone in a kind manner. He loved his family and friends dearly.
In later years they moved to Trumann, Arkansas to be near their great-grandchildren and enjoyed many years with them and making new friends in their community and at Healing Hands Community Church. Most recently Bob lived at St. Bernards Village in Jonesboro where he continued to make new friends and enjoyed his last year and a half participating in bean bag baseball and scoring home runs until the age of 94.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alva Mae Young; son, Barry Dwayne Young; his brothers, Truman Young and Harold Young; sisters, Matilda Lunsford and Catherine Brown, and an infant sister.
