Jonesboro- Richard "Dick" Gray, 84, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at his home.
He was born March 13, 1935 in Denver, Colorado to the late Dr. John and Nan Gray. The family moved to Arkansas in 1944 where he attended the University of Arkansas and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959 and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Following graduation he enlisted in the Navy and entered the Naval Aviation training program at Pensacola and received his wings in 1960. He served in the Pacific Fleet and Far East as a command pilot flying P2V and S2F naval aircrafts. He left from active duty at the rank of Lieutenant with commendation. Following his military service, he returned to Jonesboro in 1959 and worked in various banking and investment positions until his retirement.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and during his life served in various community positions: Director of Heritage Bank, President of Jonesboro Country Club, President of Dr. John T. Gray Memorial School, Commissioner of Jonesboro Airport Commission, President of Northeast Arkansas Estate Planning Council, and Chairman of Arkansas Children's Hospital Advisory Council.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Frankie Gray of the home and special friends he claimed as his own: Kimberly Davidson, Jonathan, Megan, and W. O. Davidson, and Grant, Kristen, and Lucas Davidson.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday June 19, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Tim Stewart and Ross Burton officiating. Interment will be private with military honors at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, TLC Learning Center, or the donor's charity of choice.
