Obituary

Rex Gaylon Darling, 76 of Jonesboro, AKA Uncle Bo, Dan, Illustrious Potentate, and Pop Pop, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 30, 2026. He was born on February 3, 1950, to Walter and Hattie Darling.

Rex was married to his high school sweetheart, Aelisa Ann Darling (Mckisson) for 55 years. He was a graduate of Arkansas State University and Asbury Theological Seminary. They raised 3 exceptionally smart, funny, and attractive children, Christie, Brian, and Holly. Rex was a Commander in the United States Navy, serving as a chaplain until his Naval retirement. From there he came back home to Arkansas to serve locally in the United Methodist Church. He was a treasure trove of knowledge, a gifted historian, a natural storyteller, and some say possessed the gift of gab and occasional embellishment. He had a story for every occasion and had a special way of bringing the past to life, making those around him feel as if they were right beside him. His stories, his wisdom, and his gift for connection were just a few of those things that made him so special. Through the lives he touched and the stories he shared, he leaves behind a piece of himself that will live in the hearts and memories of those who loved him. Growing up in the Darling household, Rex and Lisa would often invite young sailors and Marines for holidays and festivities. Rex's greatest joy has always been serving the Lord, spending time with his family, and serving others.

Rex is survived by his 3 children, Christie Gordon (Garrett), Brian Darling (Susan), and Holly Nicholson (Jason), 11 grandkids, Aelisa McEvilly (Donovan), Tyler Alben (Ashley), Morgan Darling (Glen), Sydney Darling, Kasey Darling, Bailey Walker (Justin), Jake Gordon (Lexi), Noah Nicholson (Elizabeth), Luke Nicholson, Lydia Nicholson (Jace), Corbin Darling. He was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Charlotte McEvily, Valeria Swift, Reyna Swift, Lily Alben, Kai Walker, Jennings Walker, and Henry Nicholson.

He is proceeded in death by his devoted wife Aelisa Darling, his is parents Walter and Hattie Darling, and grandson Ronny Swift.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at Gregg Langford Bookout Funeral Home. The family invites all who knew him to attend and share their favorite memories.
