Obituary

September 11, 2018, our dear wife, mother, Granny, Granny Great, aunt, and friend, Reva Maxine Overman Alphin, from Attica, AR, was escorted to her heavenly mansion. She passed away at the age of 77 years, surrounded by family at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, AR. Reva, often referred to as "Granny," was born on February 22, 1941 to the late George & Elvia Bishop Overman, in the hills of Ravenden Springs, AR, near the Yadkin Community. Reva attended the one-room Cedar Bluff School, then later went on to Ravenden Springs School, and graduated from Williford School, due to a school consolidation.

Reva was a devoted Christian woman. She was the organist for Oak Grove Baptist Church for 40+ years, and served the Lord in many capacities over the duration of her church membership. She sang with several gospel groups over the years, and enjoyed worshipping the Lord by playing the organ and singing solos. She was a true example of a God-fearing Christian woman; one who rarely missed a church service until her health started failing earlier this year. She loved God and her family, endlessly, and was very proud to share that love with anyone that she came in contact with. Over the years, she worked at the Lamp Factory, Brown Shoe, Pro-Group, ESNA, and perhaps one of her favorite positions was in the cafeteria at Pocahontas JR High. Reva loved to help others and did so with a humble heart. In earlier years, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was known for being an excellent seamstress and cook. Her sewing capability was matchless, and she was known for her wonderful Fried Pies.

In addition to her parents, George & Elvia, she is preceded in death by her brother, Bud Overman, and many other special family members and friends. On July 29, 1972, Reva was married to Darrell Alphin at Attica, AR.

She is survived by her husband, Darrell "Doc" Alphin, of the home; sons, Marty Smith & wife Theresa of Quitman, AR, and Kenny Smith of Pocahontas, AR; a daughter, Vicki Alphin of Attica; grandchildren Rachel Glade & husband Andrew of Fayetteville, AR, and a grandson, Noah Smith & wife Jordan of Bigelow, AR. Granny Great also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren, Maddux & Mason Glade, Griffin Walton, and Hayes & Hadlea Smith. Reva is also survived by 4 special nieces, Debbie Horton, Marsha Archer, Patricia Owens & husband Bill, and Sandy Self & husband Byron, and a great niece, Stephanie Self. Also grieving her loss, is a great host of brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and special friends. Her fur babies, Buddy & Buster, also mourn her passing. Additionally, special loved ones, Jackie Smith Songer & Chris Jenkins.

Funeral services will all be held at McNabb Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 13 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. and the funeral will be Friday morning, September 14 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home, with Jeremy Bundren & Larry Rogers officiating.

Pallbearers will include Mike & Mark Ogden, Cody, Travis & David Alphin, and Larry Higginbotham. Honorary pallbearers will include Chris Jenkins, Jackie Songer, Jerry Ogden, Dennis Parnell, Randall Getson, Dustin Alphin, Anthony Blackwell, and Heath & Chad Alphin. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery in Attica, AR.
