Redmon Laverne King, 91, of Pocahontas passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 at his home.
He was born on October 20, 1929 in Powhatan to the late Lawrence and Lacy Gertrude Mitchell King. He worked as a machinist and mill operator, was an Army veteran, and a member of the Church of Christ. He helped to establish the church in Belvidere, IL. Redmon enjoyed playing the organ, golfing, bowling, and building birdhouses. He remained very active until he fell and broke his back in 2014.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lacy King; one brother, Raymond King; and four sisters, Imogene Manes, Irma Hickman, Glada Buchanan, and Carmen King.
Redmon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverly L. Alsbury King whom he married on May 27, 1953 in Rockford, IL; one daughter, Betty (Dan) Potter of Belvidere, IL; three sons, Bill (Kandy) King of Belvidere, IL, Brian (Jan) King of Columbia, TN, and Brad (Laurie) King of Belvidere, IL; ten grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Inez Weld of Burlington, IA and Mary Ann Smiley of Collierville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 10-11 AM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 11 AM with Matt Cook officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Old Lebanon Cemetery near Lynn.
Pallbearers will include Shane Potter, Kevin King, Jason King, Joe Askew, Terry Manes, and Peyton Encheff.

The family requests that all attendees wear face masks.
