Mrs. Phyllis J. Smith of Monette, departed this life Saturday morning, at her home at the age of 67. She was born August 16, 1945v in Dixie, Arkansas, the daughter of Edgar W. McGaughey and Nora Bishop McGaughey. Phyllis married Allen Smith May 12, 1968 and they enjoyed over 45 years together. She was a member of the Monette Methodist Church where she served as secretary/treasurer for over 30 years. She spent 34 years in the banking business and retired from Monette State Bank. She enjoyed cooking and shopping and loved spending time with her family and church fellowships. She is survived by her husband, Alle Smith of the home, her mother, Nora Bishop McGaughey of N. Little Rock, three children, Keri Thomas and her husband Stacey of Black Oak, Michael Smith of Monette, and Leah Soffray and her husband Tommy of Jonesboro, a sister, Mary Greer and her husband Richard of Sherwood, six grandchildren Hunter Smith, Haley Smith, Kara Soffray, Kaitlyn Soffray, Garrett Soffray and Karoline Thomas, and several nieces, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Jerry Reed, Rev. Everett Issom and Mr. Byron Sparkman officiating. Interment will follow in Monette Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Stacey Thomas, Tommy Soffray, Garrett Soffray, Michael Smith, Heath McGaughey, Kelly McGaughey, Richard Greer and Keyle McGaughey will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include men of the Monette Methodist Church and employees of Liberty Bank. Those wishing to send memorials are asked to consider the Monette Methodist Church or The Parkinson Foundation.
