Peggy Smith, age 90, of Pocahontas, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, Indiana after an unexpected illness.
She was born on September 09, 1934, in Water Valley, Arkansas, to the late Jed Rickman and Birdie Mae Davis Rickman. Peggy married Junior Smith on February 19, 1953, and together they raised five children. Peggy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and love touched many lives. Peggy loved growing a garden and having a beautiful yard. She was a great cook and took pride in herself by having a spotless house. She enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Junior Smith; daughters, Sandy Smith Shipley and Pamela Fair; her parents, Jed and Birdie Rickman; brothers, Duel, Darrell, J.B., Raymond, Jim Rickman, and Jerry Rickman; and sisters, Martha Goodwin, Joyce Morris, Wilma Leslie, and Helen German.
Peggy is survived by her children, Mike (Carol) Smith of Doniphan, MO., Venita (Randy) Rider of Guston, KY., and Susie (Bill) Mitchell of Imboden; grandchildren, Justin (Jena) Persful of Louisville, KY., Jennifer (Noah) Embry of Hardinsburg, KY., Jory Persful of Guston, KY., Wesley (Sara) Smith of Ravenden Springs, AR., Eric (Jennifer) Rider of Brandenburg, KY., Kyle Rider of Brandenburg, KY., Heather (Kris) Pankey of Pocahontas, AR., Nick Liebhaber of Pocahontas, AR., and Alex Liebhaber of Conway; thirteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Janice Taylor of Little Rock, AR., and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. Services will be officiated by Clyde Hackworth and Joshua Dement. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery.
Peggy's life was a testament to love, resilience, and family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Justin Persful, Noah Embry, Wesley Smith, Eric Rider, Rylee Persful and Logan Reynolds.
