Mrs. Peggy Hughes of Jonesboro departed this life Saturday morning, April 11, 2015, at the Flo Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro at the age of 85. She was born August 18, 1929 in Kennett, Mo, the daughter of the late Henry Southern and Bessie Massey Southern. She married Bob Hughes on April 5, 1950, and they enjoyed 62 years before his death in 2012. She retired from what is now NEA Baptist Hospital in 2008 as a unit secretary. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and fishing. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, William Keith Hughes and Judy Becker, one grandchild, Nicole Williams, 1 great grandchild, Bailey Johnson, and three sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Penny Best (James) and Tina Soyka (Randy), all of Jonesboro, two sons, Mike Hughes (Francine) and Timothy Hughes, all of Lake City, one brother, Johnny Southern of Sikeston, MO, one sister, Ruth Akia of Arizona, twelve grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren. Graveside services have been set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Don Blackmoore officiating. Friends may visit at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. till noon. Pallbearers will be Justin Best, Chris Ray, Allen Ray, Jason Jackson, David Hood and Bryan Hughes.
