Peggy Sue Cleghorn, lovingly known as Peggy to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, May 28, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m. She was 86 years old.
Peggy was born on February 12, 1940, in Black Oak, Arkansas. She lived a life centered around faith, family, hard work, and unconditional love for those closest to her. Her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and caring heart touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jerry Don Cleghorn, who passed away on April 9, 2019. Together, Peggy and Jerry built a strong and loving family rooted in devotion, resilience, and enduring commitment. Their marriage was a true example of lifelong love and partnership.
Peggy devoted her life to caring for her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will live on for generations.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Keith Cleghorn and wife Margaret Cleghorn, Norman Allen Cleghorn and wife Sharon Cleghorn. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Mindy Rene Ditsworth and husband Dave Ditsworth, Michael Ryan Cleghorn and wife Whitney Cleghorn, Malachi Alexander Cleghorn, Mikayla Elizabeth Retzlaff and husband Wesley Retzlaff, Victoria Garner, and Alex Garcia; along with great-grandchildren Aiden Cleghorn, Kendall Cleghorn, Elizabeth Ditsworth, Charlotte Ditsworth, Trinity Garner, Jackston Garcia, Madison Qualls, Wynter Cleghorn, Clark Retzlaff, Reece Retzlaff, and Archie Retzlaff.
Peggy is also survived by numerous extended family members, lifelong friends, and loved ones who will forever remember her kindness, warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family.
In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; and several beloved family members who welcomed her into eternal rest.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest in Monette Cemetery following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Peggy will be remembered for her compassionate heart, steadfast faith, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life. Her legacy will continue through the family she loved so deeply and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and example.
The family finds comfort in knowing Peggy is now reunited with Jerry, the love of her life, and that together they rest in eternal peace.
