Obituary

Former Lorain, OH resident - Patsy Joy Martin, 81, passed away November 25, 2011 at her home in Lancaster, OH. Born November 06, 1930 in Jonesboro. She later moved to Pocahontas with her parents. She left Arkansas when she married and moved to Lorain, OH. Patsy dedicated most of her life, beginning at the age of 23, to educating children. She took great pleasure in her students and more often than not acted as a confidante to them even through adulthood. She served as a volunteer teacher in South America for eight months educating under privileged children. Patsy was a member of the Lancaster Methodist Church and attended regularly with her friends until she was no longer able due to her failing health. She had a great many friends in both Lorain, OH and in Lancaster, OH. One of her greatest pleasures was music. She was an accomplished pianist and played as a volunteer twice a year at the Ohio University Music Fest. Patsy led a very interesting life. She served as an assistant in the FBI under Edgar Hoover, traveled extensively to remote places such as the North Sea, Europe, South America, Alaska and Hawaii; however, she never forgot her roots and chose Arkansas as her final resting place. She is preceded in death by parents, husband Tom Martin and daughter Frances Maria Rhodes. She is survived by two nieces; Janet Gunnell of Merritt Island, FL and Marcia Carpenter of Jonesboro and three nephews; Gary Cavenor of West Memphis, AR, Steve Cavenor of Benton, AR and Terry Cavenor of Little Rock, AR. She also had many great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association; PO Box 11454; Alexandria, VA 22312. Condolences may be sent c/o Janet Gunnell; 237 Sykes Point Lane; Merritt Island, FL 32953. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 01, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Masonic Cemetery with Terry Miller officiating. McNabb Funeral Home was in charge of making arrangements.
