Obituary

Pocahontas- Opal Pauline Smith, 88, passed away April 19, 2016 at Randolph Home. Opal was born July 11, 1927 in Randolph County, Arkansas to the late John and Mattie Thatch. She was the mother of 5 sons whom she raised after her husbands death. She was a long time resident of Randolph and Clay Counties. She worked for Brown Shoe Factory in Pocahontas then Clayton Shoe Factory in Corning for a total of 40 years. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Clay County for over 40 years, teaching Sunday School and joining in Women's Activities. She is survived by children: Jerry (Laura) Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Tommy (Marsha) Smith of Aubrey, Texas, Toney Smith of Corning, Arkansas, Rodney Smith and Rodger Smith both of Pilot Point, Texas; grandchildren: Andrea L. (Shane) Bruce of Cushing, Oklahoma, Timothy Smith-Ream and Jeffrey Smith-Ream of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephen Smith of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Tommy Smith Jr of Aubrey, Texas, Craig Smith of Dallas, Texas, Josh Smith and Brandon Smith both of Clay County, Arkansas; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings: Lena Watson of Pocahontas, Charles Thatch of St Louis, Missouri, Charlene Vandergriff and Nina Hausman both of Randolph County, Jessie Berry of St. Peters, Missouri, Bill Thatch and Gary Thatch both of Pocahontas, and Jackie Thatch of Randolph County. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Guy Oran Smith in 1978, and 5 siblings. Visitation will be Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 1:00-2:00pm at McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00pm. Burial will be in Richwoods Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Randolph Home, 500 Camp Road, Pocahontas, AR 72455.
