Obituary

Monette- Mr. Norman Gene Wheeler, of Monette, departed this life Friday morning, May 31, 2013, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, at the age of 68. He was born May 20, 1945 in Tuckerman, the son of Ernest Wheeler and Lela Ross Wheeler. Norman married Brenda Shasteen in 1970 and they enjoyed 43 years together. Norman was employed with Colson Castor as a supervisor, in Monette for 15 years, plus his 10 years as a supervisor at Missions plastics in Nashville, Arkansas. He was a proud to serve his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. In his days He enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and watching wrestling. He will be remembered as one of the best daddy's and grandpa's there ever was. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lela Wheeler; a sister, Glenda Webb and a son, Norman Keith Wheeler. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Wheeler of the home; two daughters, Holly Sands and her husband Robert, of Lake City and Dawn Overman and her husband Gary, of Black Oak; three brothers, Ed Wheeler and his wife Nita of Monette, Steve Wheeler and his wife Loretta of Hoxie, and Gary Wheeler and his wife Janice of Monette; three sisters, Betty Ruth Blackwell of Drew, Mississippi, Virginia George of Hoxie, Katherine Lewis and her husband Rick of Powhatan; and three grandchildren, Bryce Overman, Bethany Poole, and Ben Sands and one great grandchild Baili Jean Poole. A celebration of life will be held Monday, June 3, 2013 afternoon, at 1:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette, with Rev. Joey Smithson officiating. Interment will follow in Monette Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at funeral home, Sunday evening, 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. The eldest son of each sibling will serve their uncle as pallbearers: Eric Blackwell, Greg Wheeler, Ronnie Barnes, Stacy Dawson, Shane Barnes, and Tony Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Chance Austin, Austin Hopkins, Kevin Guiltner, Bryce Overman, Bethany Baili Poole and Ben Sands. Lasting memorials may be sent to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
