Obituary

Minnie Ellen Lindt Cooksey, 91, of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the home of her daughter. Minnie was the second-born of ten children to the late Otto and Mable Lindt on February 11, 1922, in Barber County, Kansas. Her family lived in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to Arkansas where she graduated from Berryville High School in 1940. Following graduation, she moved to Jonesboro and worked as a seamstress at Lamberth's Cleaners and Clark's Cleaners prior to her marriage to Lotus Cooksey, Jr. on December 7, 1941. She then worked at Eagle Department Store until the couple opened Cooksey's Flower Shop in 1955. She was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church (formerly Huntington Avenue United Methodist Church) where she was involved in the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School and served on various committees. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lotus Cooksey, Jr.; two brothers, Richard Lindt and Charles Lindt; and one sister, Betty Hawkins. Minnie is survived by three children, Janelle Cooksey, Henry Cooksey (Linda), and Dr. Lynita Cooksey (Dr. Larry Hilburn), all of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Amy Cooksey of Jonesboro, Will Cooksey of Minneapolis, MN, and Jessica Mathews (Ross) of Hot Springs; two great-grandchildren, Malachi and Vera Grace Mathews; five sisters, Helen Lamb and Ida Payne of Kingman, KS, Opal Shoumake of Berryville, AR, Marguerite (Otis) Hamby of Temple, TX, and Joretta (Myron) Schwinn of St. George, KS; and one brother, John Lindt (Jonnie Ruth) of Berryville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at the Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Chris Hemund officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday Evening at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
