Obituary

Caraway- Mildred Janice Hurst, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born May 14, 1935 in Mangrum to the late Ted and Beatrice Wilson Ward. Mrs. Hurst retired after teaching at Caraway Elementary School for over twenty-five years. She was a loving mother and was dedicated to her eight children. She enjoyed lake life and family gatherings. Mildred loved traveling and was known for her German chocolate cakes and peach cobblers.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, N. J. Hinton; a son, Gary Don Hurst and two great-grandchildren, Westin Thorn and Emma Thorn.

She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Madison "Matt" Hurst; her children, Jeff Hinton (Diana), Danny Hurst (Judie), Gail Riley (Mike), Ronnie Hurst (Kim), Terry Hinton (Brandy), Andra Pendegraft (Keith) and Phillip Hurst (Bobbie Sue); daughter-in-law, Anita Hurst and abundance of well-loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and beloved fur baby, Izzy.

A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Gale Yates officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Justin Hinton, Chris Riley, Zac Riley, Ethan Hurst, Bryan Pendegraft, Brandon Pendegraft, Dustin Hurst, Brady Clark and Brison Clark and honorary pallbearer, Jeremy Hinton.

A special thanks to Lakeside Nursing Center and staff, St. Bernards Hospice Staff and St. Bernards second main staff and Dr. Baker and Dr. Lynch.
