Obituary

Michael Neal Henderson, 75, of Ravenden Springs, AR, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020, in Pocahontas. He was born January 10, 1945, in Newport, AR, to Jefferson Davis Henderson, Jr., and Ruthie Stephens Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jefferson Davis Henderson III; and his niece, Heather Bishop Conyer.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Polly Sue (Suzy) Henderson; sons Michael Davis Henderson of N. Little Rock and John Todd Perrigen of Conway; grandson, Michael Ball of Owensboro, KY, Larry (Marcie) Henderson of Little Rock; sister, Joyce Robinson of Cabot; two nieces, two nephews, and four grand-nieces and -nephews.

By age 21, Mike had already completed a six-year apprenticeship to become a journeyman printer, following his father, grandfather, and five uncles into the newspaper business. He ended his printing career some years later at Democrat Printing \u0026 Litho.

Mike joined the US Army at 18, later transferred to the Arkansas Army National Guard, where he jumped to officer ranks in 1974, and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1995 after more than 28 years of service.

In 1982, Mike began a new career in law enforcement at the Jacksonville Police Dept. In 1988, he moved to the Little Rock Police Dept. as a Patrol Officer, then Patrol Sergeant. He retired in 2005 with more than 24 years of service.

Mike was deeply compassionate as well as brilliant, articulate, witty, and accomplished. He was a man of many skills and talents. He loved music, enjoyed working on his houseboat, and built and added on to his house and shop. He also had a vast knowledge of weapons and was an expert marksman with both rifles and handguns. He reloaded his own ammunition, and taught firearms safety and concealed carry permit classes for many years.

Most of all, Mike enjoyed time spent with family and friends exchanging stories and opinions on any subject. He had the respect and friendship of people from all walks of life.

Mike was loved. He will be deeply and forever missed.

A memorial service is being planned and will be announced soon.
