Melvin Vinson Riney, 83, of Pocahontas, departed this life on Sunday, July 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Melvin was born on June 3, 1943, in Engelberg, Arkansas, to the late Leo Alvin Riney and Lena Brown Riney. He dedicated 33 years of service to Brown Shoe before beginning a second career as a farmer. A hardworking man throughout his life, Melvin found great joy in the simple pleasures of the outdoors. He loved farming, especially baling hay and tending his garden, and looked forward to hunting season each year. He was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team.

Melvin will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his quiet strength, and the love he had for the land and the life he built. His kindness and steadfast spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lena Riney; his beloved wife, Vada Riney; brothers, Thomas Riney and Alvin Riney; sisters, Wynona Carroll, Dorothy Lindsey, Mildred Grimes, Bernice Lindsey, and Lucille Riney; and his brother-in-law, Floyd Grissom.

He is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Justin) Eversmeyer of Pocahontas; his sister, Bertha Grissom of Pocahontas; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Riney; his special friend, Mary Drager of Truman; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.

In accordance with Melvin's wishes, cremation has been chosen as the final disposition.

There will be a private service held at a later date.
