Obituary

Mazie Lou Hurn Wheeler was born March 17, 1932 in Randolph County to Tive and Clara Katherin Simington Hurn and passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

Mazie left school at an early age to work for Brown Shoe Company and help support her family.
While working for Brown Shoe, Mazie met the love of her life, Bud Wheeler. She and Bud were married February 10, 1950 and were together 69 years until his passing on September 30, 2019.

After taking time off for her children, Mazie returned to Brown Shoe Factory for the next 37 years, retiring in 1994.

Having made the important decision as a teenager to follow Jesus Christ, Mazie faithfully served her Lord at Shannon Baptist Church and at the time of her death was a member of Sutton Free Will Baptist Church.

Upon her retirement, Mazie enjoyed volunteering with her husband at the American Red Cross blood drives in Randolph County. For several years, Mazie served as a volunteer at the Red Cross Mash Bash in Jonesboro.

Mazie will be remembered as a quiet, faithful servant, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Wheeler; her parents, Tive and Clara Hurn; sister, Katherin Hurn; brothers, Moody Hurn and Pete Hurn; and grandson, Jason Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Karen Lucille (Dale) Johnson and Mary Katherin (Larry) Alumbaugh. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Angela Johnson, Andrea (Roger) Scoles, Ashley (Amanda) Johnson, Eric Alumbaugh, and Ryan (Ashley) Alumbaugh and great grandchildren, Chad, Cody, Garyson, Cade, Cailee, Claire, Carlie, Colton, and Declan. Her twin sister, Minnie Sue Green and baby sister, Clara Bass, sister-in-laws, Romuilda Hurn, Theda Hurn, and Ona Mae Rice also survive and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10-11 am at Sutton Free Will Baptist Church with a funeral immediately following at 11 am with Bro. Kevin Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.
