Max Rufus Long, 90, of Pocahontas passed away Monday, August 3, 2026 at St. Bernard’s Five Rivers Medical Center.
He was born October 16, 1935 in the Ingram Community to the late Rayburn and Vada Pulliam Long. On May 30, 1954 Max married the love of his life, Wanda Stone Long. Max worked as a banker for the Bank of Pocahontas for 35 years, was an avid quail hunter, and practical jokester. Max was a longtime faithful member of Pyburn Street Church of Christ where he taught the Young Marrieds Bible Class for many years.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Rayburn and Vada Long; brother, Rex Long; sisters, Ann Davis and Genell Long; and nieces and nephews, James Edward Ivy, Joe David Stone, Ella Mae Wilkins, Virginia Vincent, Butch Eskridge, Stanley Orsburn, and Danny Ellis.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Wanda Stone Long; nieces and nephews, Pamela Sue Long, Cheryl Martin, Charlie Dismang, Mary Ann Ballard, Edna Jo Ziegler, Betty Lou Bray, Jerry Don Stone, Joey Eskridge, Frank Ellis, Winnie Tedder, Jannie Distretti, Vance Cupp, Kenny Orsburn, Karen Mitchell, and Terri Jo Orsburn; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 11 AM-12 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 12 PM with Joshua Dement and Mitch Walton officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery.
