Obituary

Jonesboro- Mary Alice Garst "Peggy" was born June 20, 1925 and passed from this life on January 18, 2019 peacefully in her home in Jonesboro.

She was the youngest of four born to Bernice Jenkins White and Richard White in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She married Marion Lyle Garst, a World War II veteran on January 20, 1941. They were married sixty years when her husband passed in 2001.

She was a baptized member of Northside Christian Church, Jonesboro and attended regularly. Miss Peggy was a nurse for over forty years retiring at the age of 81. She was a loving mother and although raised a city girl, she adapted to farm life when they moved to eastern Kansas. She loved the old hymns and 40's and 50's music, to grow houseplants, do needle work and visitors.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Lyle, and her parents, one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her four children, Richard (Gloria) Garst of Pinckard, Alabama, Frances (Eldon) Richardson and Patricia Stauffer, all of Jonesboro and Dale (Kathy) Garst of Coker Creek, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren, Geni Chastain, Lynda Burt, Alicia Pescod, Daniel Richardson, Joseph Garst, Ray Rennock, John Garst, Paul Richardson, Zane Stauffer, Aaron Richardson, Jason Stauffer, Mary Jane Garst and Christina Micciollo; eighteen great-grandchildren: Christelle Haddox, Ashley Welch, Timothy Welch, Charity Glenn, Brandy Williams, Lyndy Ransone, Elijah Richardson, Mykala Parker, Josh Richardson, Joseph Richardson, Leah Richardson, Molly Ricardo, Richard Pescod, Rosemary Ballone, Aeryn Garst, Evan Garst, Joseph Garst and Justin Garst; eighteen great- great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm Wednesday at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.

A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Eldon Richardson and Marcus Johnson officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Association or a charity of your choice.
